Castle Rising is located off the A148, about 5 miles from Swaffham. It is one of the most important twelth century castles in England. The stone Keep, with particulary fine arcading and embellishments on the fore building, was built around 1140. Although the main section of the roof no longer exists the walls are fully intact, and some of the rooms are in near perfect condition, this together with the massive earthworks, reaching in some places to 120 feet high, ensure that Rising is a castle of national interest. Opening times are 1 April to 1 November daily - 10.00am to 6.00pm. 2 November to 31 March Wednesday to Sunday - 10.00am to 4.00pm. Cost - Adults £3.25, Children £2.50 - (Family Ticket - 2 adults and 2 children £9.00).
